A Toyota Fortuner crashed into the railing of the southbound half of the Skyway in Parañaque yesterday afternoon. People who sent us photos said the accident took place at Km 18 in Sucat, around 3pm.
The impact was strong enough to wreck the front part of the vehicle, its right front wheel getting detached and plummeting to the South Luzon Expressway pavement. A portion of the railing was damaged, a long piece of the barrier also hitting the ground.
It isn't clear what caused the incident. Photos show at least two individuals being attended to by first responders.
Skyway accidents are nothing new. In July this year, a Mitsubishi Strada breached the railing and almost fell off the elevated tollway. In December 2013, a bus did take a plunge in Barangay Marcelo Green, killing at least 20 people. In March 2014, a small bus owned by the Skway operator also took a nosedive in Bicutan.
Those regularly taking the SLEX route ought to be reminded once again that they would be safest driving right under the Skyway, inside its shadow and not outside its periphery. You never know what might drop from up above.
