Next attraction: The Chevrolet Colorado

TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Next attraction: The Chevrolet Colorado

Chevrolet Philippines could very well benefit from Ford Philippines' inability to bring in the 3.2-liter Ford Ranger this year. Chevy distributor, the Covenant Car Company, is  looking to introduce in the Philippines the 2.5- and 2.8-liter variants of the much-awaited Colorado pickup truck.

According to our source from Chevrolet Philippines, both variants of the Colorado may arrive in either June or July.

On paper, the two variants of the Colorado are evenly matched with the two variants of the Ranger, give or take a few horsepower and Newton meters of twist.

The 2.5-liter Colorado, for example, put outs 150hp and 350Nm of torque while the 2.2-liter Ranger produces 148hp and 375Nm of twist.

Meanwhile, the 2.8-liter Colorado has an output of 180hp and 470Nm of toque while the 3.2-liter Ranger churns out 197hp and 470Nm of torque.

If you're in the market for a pickup truck, which one will you be getting?

Rival to the Ranger, parang Trailblazer rin ung mga engines.

    FORD RANGER!
  • Fernando Amorsolo Apr 03 2012 @ 12:06pm
    FORD RANGER.

I respect the Colorado. Chevy is also an authority in the Pick up segment. I like the neatness, the interior and the aesthetics of the machine, but hey, The 3.2 Liter, 198 ps, and 470 of The Ford Ranegr, THAT WILL SURELY COME IN DUE TIME, is a way to go. Right? :)

For those IN THE RUSH for a pick up, maybe a Colorado is for you, BUT FOR THOSE WHO ARE WILLING TO WAIT, The Beast Ford Ranger is there. :)

BUT WAIT. The HP and TORQUE of the Rnager is NOT JUST ITS SELLING POINT
    1. 5 Star Safety rating from NCAP. -- ONLY PICK UP that GOT THE HIGHEST Level in Safety
    2. 800 mm FLOOD Wading Capability
    3. BEST and LARGEST in class Storage Cubby
    4. Best Bang For the Buck
    5. Interior same as to Fiesta - Voice Command calls and everything.

      Rnager

        SPELLING NAZI! :))

Me 2, FORD RANGER, but the next year to arrive 3.2-litre straight-penta cylinder. Way smoother than the straight-4 Colorado, it doesen't need any balancing shafts, thus all the power is in the engine itself. i take it that it is even less stressed as with the 400cc plus over the Colorado it doesn't need a lot of boost pressure from the eVGT.

The VM Motori engine Colorado, however, is also reputable ---- VM Motori diesel is battle-tested as it is the supplier of diesel engine for the Israeli army. Same as Isuzu Motors, it is just as reputable and battle-tested. The engine in the US military Army are Isuzu design under the then 100% partner GM-Chevrolet.

BUT, since i still have my DMax, and no complaint it, i would be waiting for next year (late 2012) Chevy Trailblazer SUV. i need a nice midsize 7-seater SUV at the moment, and it is going to be the Trailblazer WOW!!!!

    2 door lang to?
    • adgarcia Apr 03 2012 @ 12:39pm
It also comes in 4-door variant, ewan ko lang kung 4 door ung mapupunta sa Philippine market.
    • 17Sphynx17 Apr 03 2012 @ 01:40pm
Mag single cab ba release ng chevy for Phils? Yung Ford kasi sinabi talaga Double Cab lang, walang single cab pa at this point in time e.
      • BOOGIECAT Apr 03 2012 @ 08:48pm
Double Cab muna yang mga yan...
  • Fernando Amorsolo Apr 03 2012 @ 12:08pm
See How mad the Engine is

    Ranger's 2.2 Liter (SMALLER Displacement) - 148 HP
    Colorado's 2.5 Liter (Larger Displacement) - 150 HP

-- Synthesis: FUEL ECONOMY. You'll get the same amount of POWER, but Ford Ranger can do it while SPENDING MENIAL amount of Fuel. :)
    • BOOGIECAT Apr 03 2012 @ 01:34pm
      Para kang Ford salesman..

      • Fernando Amorsolo Apr 03 2012 @ 10:37pm

  • 17Sphynx17 Apr 03 2012 @ 01:42pm
Ford Ranger still for me =) Even disregarding the other points others have pointed out, it just connects with me on a certain level, kind of like how the Hilux appeals to me more than the others when it was launched. =)
  • adgarcia Apr 03 2012 @ 04:24pm
Parang Hilux lang yung 4 door variant.
  • ashek268 Apr 03 2012 @ 04:30pm
    Isuzu D-Max Clone!
    • dtkiko Apr 03 2012 @ 06:52pm
Not really clone.... The engine on the Colorado comes from VM Motori Italia, nothing to do anymore with Isuzu Motors.

If there are still some Isuzu's in any GM-Chevrolet diesel engines, these are some of the Duramax diesel-equipped past and current model Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, GMC Hummer H1, GMC Topkick medium duty truck, Chevrolet Kodiak medium duty, Chevrolet Express, GMC Savanna, and (Chevrolet) Holden Colorado.
    • someonespecialisme Apr 03 2012 @ 07:52pm
not really..originally..the DMAX and the COLORADO shared their platform..but i think now hindi na..
      • BOOGIECAT Apr 03 2012 @ 08:47pm
Same platform pero iba ang engines, transmission at exterior design.

    • Kyoichi Sudo Apr 03 2012 @ 11:03pm
Thank goodness matagal pa dadating dto ang bagong D-Max, at least our D-Max that just turned 4 months old to us last april 1 wouldn't look old. But I have to agree with you ashek because when i look at the photos of the New D-Max and Colorado, I was shocked, sa dashboard logo lang sa steering wheel ang pinagkaiba ng dalawa. Rumors say that the twining of the D-max and Colorado(same w/ the Trailblazer and upcoming Alterra) will most likely happen w/ the Strada and Navara(same w/ the Pathfinder and the upcoming Montero Sport) but those are rumors, its not 99.9% sure.
    • andeechase 10 months ago
The Isuzu D-Max Engine is make and build of GM Thailand with a high performance and durability, But now Chevrolet produce their pick up in Asia Pacific which is the Colorado and i know it has a Great Duramax Diesel Engine and in terms of power the 2.8 engine had a 180 hp @3,800 rpm 470 Nm @ 2,000 rpm i think it is powerful in any pick up in the Philippines.
  • angelo Apr 03 2012 @ 06:42pm
I think I would still go with the Ranger. Ford is the first car company to build a pick up out of the Ford Model T. Plus, and thus I have my trust on them. The Colorado doesn't even look like a pick up that much. It's too futuristic. Another is that to add .2 liter engine just to get 2 more horsepower? In my opinion, that is foolish. What I do like about this car are the teeth on that stock tires!!! :) peace!
  • lord_cykb24 Apr 03 2012 @ 06:55pm
    All-New Ford Ranger....... ( preferably the 3.2 I5 )
  • BOOGIECAT Apr 03 2012 @ 07:51pm

    • Fernando Amorsolo Apr 03 2012 @ 10:41pm
Given that Colorado and BT-50 (which is the Last product made by Ford and Mazda as partners) are also presented in the marekt, BUT THE QUESTION is, WHICH are you going to choose?? :)

  • Fernando Amorsolo Apr 03 2012 @ 10:45pm
    To Boogiecat:

I respect your opinion and your perspective.
    OKAY.

    Peace Y'all!
  • mindkinetic Apr 03 2012 @ 11:02pm

  • kapangyarihan_ng_kabayo Apr 04 2012 @ 10:13am
Let the Truck Wars begin! I'd say let Autobot Ironhide decide who he'd like to represent as himself when he transforms.
  • barry Apr 04 2012 @ 12:31pm
ako, ranger is a monster pick-up. period!
  • Edgarallan Poe Apr 05 2012 @ 10:25am
This Colorado definitely looks good. It has class. It should be used primarily(in mind) for family purposes like shopping, malling, picnic,or just joy-riding or cruising. This is the one. The price definitely matters.
  • monmon Apr 07 2012 @ 11:28am
I'm planning to buy a pick-up soon.. How much kaya ang Colorado?
  • Edgarallan Poe 11 months ago
I say, the one that would give a longer mileage per liter should be the choice.
