Every month, we get separate sales reports from two different automotive groups: the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID). CAMPI is the original organization and counts Toyota, Mitsubishi, Honda, Ford, Isuzu and Nissan, among others, as members. The old reliables, in other words. AVID, on the other hand, is made up of the "new kids on the block": Hyundai, Chevrolet, Mini and Subaru.
We find it weird that a small car market such as ours can't even unite to show solidarity, which probably makes the gray-market vendors and the car smugglers laugh. Every time a foreigner asks us, "How many new cars do you sell in the Philippines every year?" we can only answer, "Er, depends whom you ask--and whether the figures are honest to begin with."
Even we sometimes get confused. So, enough with the complicated sales reports. Here, finally, is the ultimate "Top Gear Philippines car sales chart." From now on, we will work to deliver to you each month a combined sales report from CAMPI and AVID, so you can clearly see sales numbers of your favorite car brands ranked in proper order. A note, however: This still doesn't include the brands that do not submit sales figures to either organization.
We kick things off with the November 2012 sales figures. The ranking is based on year-to-date (January to November 2012) numbers. We hope you find this information useful.
