Philippine driver Marlon Stockinger takes maiden GP3 victory

After finishing in second place in the opening race of the 2012 GP3 Series, Philippine driver Marlon Stockinger of the Status Grand Prix team finally claimed victory in the second race of the second round in Monaco. He won from pole position after finishing eighth in the first race of the second round. (The second race of every GP3 round follows a reverse grid order for the top eight finishers of the first race.)

With his maiden GP3 win, Stockinger has vaulted into third place overall in the championship standings with 39 points, behind Lotus GP's Aaro Vainio (54 points) and MW Arden's Mitch Evans (43 points).

"The season is still very long," said Stockinger at the press conference after the race. "I know we only have eight rounds, but I think it’s important we take it race by race and not look too far ahead. What we have achieved so far is really good and I am very happy."

Round 3 is scheduled for June 23-24 at the Valencia Street Circuit in Spain.
