It seems like Filipinos can't catch a break these days. After super typhoon Yolanda had struck the southern part of the country, race driver Enzo Pastor yesterday suffered a blown tire and failed to make it to the finish line of the CTM Macau Touring Car Cup during the Macau Grand Prix weekend. Pastor, driving a Honda Integra DC5, had qualified 14th on the grid.
"What a race!" Pastor posted on his Facebook page. "I got to eighth place on the second lap and was catching the group I detached from behind a few slow cars. But my tire overheated and blew at the Mandarin--the fastest corner of the track--on the fourth lap."
After the race, he said: "Just saw the results. The guy who won was the guy I was catching before my tire blew."
That guy was Roger Leung (Honda Euro R) of Hong Kong, who claimed victory in the 12-lap race around the 6.12km Circuito da Guia in 42 minutes and 36.523 seconds. In second place was Wai Lung Law (Honda Civic FD2) also of Hong Kong, followed by Man Fai Lui (Honda Integra DC5) of Macau.
Andy Yan of Hong Kong posted the fastest lap (2:46.939) in a Chevrolet Lacetti. Unfortunately, he could only manage a 14th-place finish.
Of the 26 participants who lined up the grid in this race, only 17 were able to cross the finish line.
