Just like you, we were saddened by the fact that the Vios Cup promotional race was postponed today due to typhoon Santi. Excited to see the race action at Clark International Speedway, we couldn't wait to root for our very own Top Gear Philippines publisher Jeff Reyes, consumer editor Botchi Santos, and columnists Aris Ilagan and Brian Afuang, who were to race against three other motoring journalists and five celebrities. With model Phoemela Baranda in pole position, who wouldn't want to find out what was going to happen on race day?
Despite the brewing excitement, Toyota Motor Philippines decided to postpone the race to a later date due to bad weather conditions. The announcement was sent to the media at about 7am this morning. TMP apologized for the inconvenience, explaining that the company prioritizes "safety above everything else." The Japanese carmaker will announce the new schedule in the next few days, so stay tuned.
Now, let's not blame TMP for not pushing through with the event even if the weather improved significantly later in the day. Even triathlon events get canceled at the last minute when Mother Nature acts up. The 12 drivers are surely just as saddened after weeks of preparation. But at least we all get to live another day and watch the much-awaited Vios Cup promotional race some other time, when weather conditions are perfect for a circuit race.
In the meantime, why don't we try to predict who will win the race? Take our poll, and post your Vios Cup race predictions in the comments box.
