STAR Tollway operator looking to expand expressway

TopGear.com.ph Philippine car News - STAR Tollway operator looking to expand expressway

The operator of the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway is reportedly planning to expand the expressway and to subsequently increase the tollway fees once this is completed.

"They are proposing to construct two more lanes from Lipa City to Batangas City," said Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) executive director Edmund Reyes.

According to MB.com.ph, STAR Infrastructure Development Corporation (SIDC), the STAR Tollway operator, estimates that the cost of the expansion would amount to at least P2 billion.

Reyes also noted that besides the two additional lanes, the expansion project also includes asphalt overlaying and the installation of an automatic toll collection system, closed circuit television cameras, and lighting.

The report added, however, that once SIDC completes the project in 2014, it will ask the TRB to hike its toll fee to recover its investment.

"The Department of Public Works and Highways has approved the cost of additional works. It is up to the TRB now to approve SIDC's proposal on cost-recovery mechanism," said Reyes.

Before they expand, they should fix all the bumpy portions of the highway first. Coming from SLEX, it is easy to know that you have entered the STAR toll. Very bad concrete highway.

Lalo na yung road right before Sto. Tomas exit. Kawawa ang auto kapag ganon ang kalsada.

Siguro naman isasabay na nila yung pagaayos ng bumpy road.

I think that's what the asphalt overlaying mentioned is for, right? hahaha! In any case, you are absolutely right. Buses normally ride like fat American SUVs; soft and floaty and boaty. But the few times I've ridden a bus on STAR, it felt like I was being jackhammered.

I agree with marcha77, we drove to Ibaan last week and the motorway was in a bad state. Star tollway management should waive all toll fees until the roads are fixed.

Dapat Lang dagdagan nila lanes, delikado kasi talaga. Pero Ito pinakamasarap mag testing ng top speed may speed limit nga pero wala nanghuhuli, I tried my corolla here.
