TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Suzuki Philippines launches all-new Swift

Suzuki Philippines launched the all-new Swift on July 2, and according to one source from within the company, over 100 units of the subcompact hatchback have been delivered to the Japanese carmaker's 15 automobile dealerships nationwide to make it available to customers today.

As we mentioned prior to the all-new Swift's launch, it is equipped with a lightweight 1.4-liter engine that puts out 94hp and 130Nm of torque. To help lighten the powerplant's mass, the new K14B engine utilizes an aluminum alloy cylinder head, a lighter plastic cylinder head cover, lighter pistons and narrower crankshaft bearings.

With a bore and stroke of 73mm x 82mm compared to the previous Swift's 78mm x 78mm, the all-new model now has an advantage in acceleration as there is less need to floor the throttle to get the car going at an increased pace. A combustion chamber with a center plug pentroof design, variable valve timing and a cross flow intake and exhaust layout, ensures the car’s optimum fuel delivery and combustion while electronic throttle control comes as standard. Previously, this was only available on the Suzuki Swift Sport.

The overall results of these changes are improved engine management control and launch feel, more refinement at idle, reduced emissions and better fuel economy. Based on the rigorous tests that Suzuki has conducted, the car reportedly consistently yields a fuel consumption of 18.2 kilometers per liter, while emissions are at a low 132 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.

Interior space and cargo-carrying capacity have also been improved on the all-new Swift as it is marginally longer and wider than the previous-generation model, while still maintaining the exact same height. The resulting 2.5-percent increase in length and a 1.6-percent increase in wheelbase give the car 210 liters of luggage space behind the rear seats, which can then be expanded to 533 liters with the backs of the 60:40 split-folding rear seats collapsed.

The all-new Swift is available with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission at P729,000 and P769,000, respectively.
