Thailand-made 1.3-liter Honda Jazz now available again

Honda Jazz 1.3 S

You all know that Honda ran into a world of problems when its manufacturing facility in Thailand was submerged in floodwater last year. Chief of those problems was the cessation of supply for the Japanese carmaker's distributors in the ASEAN region--including the Philippines, obviously. This prompted Honda Cars Philippines to begin importing units from Japan, which wasn't really a sustainable proposition as the units were significantly more expensive to source.

Among the cars shipped from Japan was the Jazz. But good news just got mailed to us as HCPI announces that the Thailand-made 1.3-liter Jazz S variant is now available once again at its nationwide dealerships. "Honda Cars Philippines resumes sales of the Jazz 1.3-liter S variant starting May 18, 2012, following the recovery of supply from Honda’s manufacturing plant in Thailand, which again started production of automobiles on March 26, 2012," the company said in a statement.

So, the big question is: How much is the Thai-made 1.3-liter Jazz S variant now? Honda has priced it P752,000 for the manual and P792,000 for the automatic. The specs list? Check out the bullet points below.

I'd rather have the other brand with 1.5L engine at a lower price.
  • BOOGIECAT May 25 2012 @ 09:09pm
    Magbabalik naman ang 1.5 V.
  • carwiki May 25 2012 @ 09:21pm
I think Honda should develop a 1.5 variant with a manual transmission.
    • Troy May 25 2012 @ 09:37pm
Kaya nga e, matic tuloy ung akin.
      • carwiki May 25 2012 @ 09:47pm
Wag mo nang pagsisihan sir. Nakabili ka na eh. Yung S naman parang manual din.
    • barry May 25 2012 @ 09:55pm
we might know in the future, there could be a 1.5 manual jazz...
    • fortis May 26 2012 @ 12:02am
Other countries do have a 1.5 M/T variant. I just don't know why we don't have it.
      • carwiki May 26 2012 @ 04:30pm
Yes, sana maipadala ng Honda to our shores. Para mas mura kaysa sa AT.
      • manongtaxi May 27 2012 @ 04:27pm
Topgear and other car executives always reminds us that the reason why we aren't able to enjoy a wider choice or options here in our country when coming to a model's variant is that the market demand here is not enough to prompt them to include us in the list, nakakalungkot man aminin pero ganun talaga :( like you and other people here, i still prefer manual transmission over automatic ones.

Guys, i dont own a honda (i used to) pero curious lang ako kung halata nga ba talaga ang difference ng japan made unit compared to those coming from thailand?
    • fortis May 25 2012 @ 11:51pm
If you are a keen observer there is a noticeable difference between the quality of the interior plastics, switchgear fitment and the sound of how the doors close.
    • robin_micmac May 26 2012 @ 01:18am
i think its more of a colonial mentality thing. people still think that if something is made somewhere then it is still better. car companies have standards which they follow. and every plant wherever they put it will have the same process and same tooling. so even if they put the production line in timbuktu it will still yield the same build quality. there might be a very small difference but it cant be miles away from the standard. if people still say that the japan built honda is better than the thai built one and they can find flaws in the thai built hondas, then i guess they are just nitpicking to prove their theory is correct. they should be hired by honda as they will be very helpful in the quality control department
      • manongtaxi May 27 2012 @ 04:30pm
Wala naman talaga difference it's more of a psychological effect, to compensate para dun sa malaking pera na ginastos, siyempre kung gagastos ka ng 700k sa isang honda ang una mong iisipin mas sulit kung bibili ka nung JDM kaysa galing dun sa thailand.
    • aargh May 26 2012 @ 08:02am
Its more psychological than anything else..
    • roadrage May 26 2012 @ 09:03am
...then if this is the case i can only infer that higher price tags for Japan CBUs is just a result of higher production costs in japan against the Thai produce churned out from massive assembly plants - not these imperceptible differences or no difference at all?!
    • dheezhee May 26 2012 @ 09:04am
Placebo effect if you ask me... In global corporations like this, QA processes are standard across the board.
    • sugeina May 26 2012 @ 09:42am
Dheezhee is correct! Qa standards are the same globally. The difference would be in the consistency. Japan is very good in manufacturing so let's say out of 500,000 units they produce, they'll get 1 or 2 units with factory defects. While in thailand, they'll get probably 1 or 2 units with factory defects every 200,000 units they produce. But those thai assembled units without factory defects would be the exactly the same as japan units without factory defects.
    • someonespecialisme May 27 2012 @ 02:56pm
i think its just the same since same company would always have the same quality control but from what i know..the japan made units yata have some extras like cruise control..i own a 2006 FD...im not sure where that was made
    • melbs May 27 2012 @ 04:29pm
though a lot are saying that the factories wherever they are have the same QA, i will just site a simple actual case regarding philippine made honda civic ek (1996 to 2000) vs overseas made ones: the roof of PH made civics rusted on its own from inside the cabin outwards. PH factory used the wrong sealant or something. independent paint shops know this is a factory problem by honda PH and transplants JDM surplus roof as a fix for it. honda PH never admitted its fault and never issued recalls as it is a major costly fix for them.

Paint of honda PH made vehicles also easily faded. our eg (esi), ek (vti and sir) all faded less than 8 years while our older honda legend made overseas had no problems and was still in great condition while it was with us, about 13 years since new.

  • zetsumei May 26 2012 @ 02:44am
Good to know that it's priced the same a year ago when it was launched. No Price increase. Are they bringing in the 1.5V from Thailand too? or will Honda Phils. first sell all the Japan-made Jazz.
  • manongtaxi May 27 2012 @ 04:24pm
Everything about the Honda Jazz is not enough to entice the people to buy it, more updates or perhaps a new model is needed to make it as a new face in the market.
  • spurs20 May 28 2012 @ 03:13pm
Anyone has an idea when 1.5 variant from Thailand will arrive?!
  • spurs20 May 28 2012 @ 05:43pm
would've bought the japan units even if i like the thailand units better. But the color choices for the japan units are very limited.
no choice, will need to wait until july!!!
