The Robert Blair Carabuena drama isn't over just yet

TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - The Robert Blair Carabuena drama isn't over

It seems Robert Blair Carabuena might still be able to drive a motor vehicle in the future as ABS-CBNNews.com apparently jumped the gun on the Land Transportation Office.

TopGear.com.ph got in touch with LTO- National Capital Region director Atty. Teofilo Guadiz today to talk about the "permanent revocation" of Carabuena's driver's license. According to Guadiz, when ABS-CBNNews.com contacted him yesterday, September 17, asking for an update on Carabuena's case, he told the news outlet that he was currently drafting a 10-page decision revoking Carabuena's driver's license for good. A few hours later, ABS-CBNNews.com came out with a story saying that the LTO has already revoked Carabuena's driver's license. The LTO NCR director was later informed that Carabuena's case would be handled by the office of LTO chief Virginia Torres.

"To put the record straight, no decision has officially been made about Carabuena's driver's license," said Guadiz, stressing that what he had then was only a draft. He clarified that the final decision on Carabuena's driving privileges now lies with the LTO chief's office.

Now that the fate of Carabuena's driving privileges is still up in the air, do you think the LTO should revoke his license permanently or should his punishment be a little more lenient? Hit the comments box.

everybody deserves a second chance.. just punish him with maybe 3 years of revocation or whatever..

There is a difference between mercy and justice. In carabuena's case? we can apply both mercy and Yes, Justice! punish him with 2 or 3 years revocation like paow said.

Anyway, this is my first comment. just cant keep my finger out of the keyboard about this topic..

centralized na ba yung licensce natin? Yung friend ko kasi nakakuha ulit ng license nung hindi na nya nakuha yung license dun sa kumuha sa kanyang license.

Make him a MMDA traffic aid for 1 year. That i'm sure he will realize how it feels to be like the MMDA guy he slapped.
    • gasoline_boy 8 months ago
yeah, freeze din yung assets nya for 1 year. all he could spend is equivalent sa salary ng MMDA traffic aid. that would be a good eye opener.
      • dzeimz16 9 months ago
I think that would be out of MMDA's jurisdiction.

LTO- National Capital Region director Atty. Teofilo Guadiz is already drafting a permanent revocation? Darn, why not draft a permanent revocation to majority of public utility drivers, truck drivers included who continue to disobey traffic rules and regulations?

Permanent revocation seems to severe. I would agree with suspension if that is the case to "teach him a lesson". 3 years max as that is the span of a driver's license now. Then after 3 years, re-apply as a new driver, student for 1 month then non-pro.

I think that at least is fair. But permanent revocation is too extreme and is kind of hyping it up further for media to feed on it as "action" from the government with regards to this case.

    My two cents.

just give him a chance ...we dont' know why he was very mad with Mr. Fabro at the time?...We really don't know what is the origin of that problem.. we just saw that only saw that in the news and in my case in the internet...we can't judge him...he already had his lesson for what happened..I know he learned a lot from it...

ang OA naman ng MMDA...lifetime revocation talaga?....grabe naman....public humiliation and online/cyber bullying was enough...just forgive the guy...i think he learned his lessons naman...God has thought each and everyone of us to forgive...

    I have to say this.

Definitely, without a doubt, I am a big fan of Top Gear Philippines. but, TGP, please be reminded of your role as a journalist. Whatever you dissipate in to your sites, your news should be reliable, well supported by facts and everything. I know a bit of journalism, and I know for a fact that you should uphold quality news and truth above all. In this case, you should have been more sure that the news you break in to the www is reliable and well supported. Also, in this story, it is not the issue what do we think about What should happen to Carabuena, kasi npagpisyetahan na kahapon na wala na syang lisensya for life.

well this is just me. I have no question about your capabilities but keep your journalist's creed and ethics in whatever you do.

(by the way, abscbn news is not really reliable. Switch to GMA7 for more factual news :)

TGP is also confused here you know. They aren't the first hand reporter of the news and as a journalist of motoring industry, and having the ABSCBN News (which is one big news center) spreading the news, it's understandable. At least they are there to correct it. Which is part of journalism etiquette.

      Hello there!

Well, my problem is that, they ALSO broke a wrong news. TGP just based their first news from ABSCBNs report. I mean, they should have confirmed it earlier before they also broke it here. I appreciate TGP for correcting it, but, you know, damage has been done already. It is not, in a way, forgivable, that you just based your news without further confirming it. let alone ABSCBN suffer the consequences, at least TGP should have been more responsible journalists.

Imagine, Carabuena's name, dragged yesterday in the carnage of bringing out an UNCONFIRMED decision. in other cases, this means a lawsuit.

But then again, at least this thing is corrected. We just wish this wont happen again

The last line within the parentheses sounded somewhat biased, but anyway. I bet TGP did go to lengths just to provide justifiable news to everyone, especially now how fast the current speed of media spreads. They just happen to miss this bit. Yes, they shouldn't have missed this bit, but that's why this article is made to support the first article which was misinforming. Everybody has a chance to be forgiven. After-all, everyone makes mistakes. Though I'm not saying they are allowed to make mistakes just because of that reason, but I bet with their professionalism, they strive always to do the best to deliver the most reliable of information as possible.

On Carabuena's case, I agree with giving him a second chance and like giving him like several years of suspension instead. For me, they can only be allowed to give him life-time suspension if the agency agrees to be equal to all violators without the double-standard. That's the only way to prove that they are acting because they want to uphold of justice and enforcement, and not because they just want to look good and presentable to the public.

Permanent revocation is just too harsh. Public service can be sufficient enough.

Shet na channel 2 yan, grabe mauna lang sa balita. Poor news team.
  • mindkinetic 8 months ago
suspend the license for a year or so then 6mons . community service will just be fine
  • twenk123 8 months ago
Laying a hand upon an officer performing his duties, could net him a 4-6 year jail term. Loss of career, his public persona, his dreams, gone.

What's 'not driving for life' compared to that?

  • Dirk_Lance07 9 months ago
Robert is just one case; there are a lot of drivers out there that are more qualified for license revocation for life.
  • oh_noh 9 months ago
wala na, tapos nang sakyan ng mga politikos ang issue... "lagay" na lang ang katapat ngayon nyan!!!

    I think he deserves it.

Have you, likewise, checked on the news about a parent pointing his gun to the forehead of a 4th year high school student of Colegio San Agustin in Dasmarinas Village, Makati? This happened inside the faculty room and was actually witnessed by several faculty members who did not even bother to lift a finger to protect the boy.
