Toyota launches new Yaris in the US

New Toyota Yaris

Toyota has unveiled the 2012 Yaris in the United States. We're not really familiar with the life cycle of the current model, but Toyota calls the Yaris you see in the photos "all-new." Judging by the exterior design, however, this looks like merely a cosmetic makeover.

The press release is short, which reinforces our suspicion that this really is just a refresh. Part of that PR statement includes this:

The all-new Yaris comes in three-door and five-door liftback models, with available five-speed manual or four-speed electronic automatic transmissions. Powered by an efficient 106hp four-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), it’s EPA-rated to achieve 30mpg city and 38mpg highway with the manual and 30 city/35 highway with the automatic.

If you recall, Toyota Motor Philippines presented its own face-lifted Yaris in March. Whether the new US Yaris has any bearing on the Philippine version remains to be seen. For now, we just have to be content with the photos.

Which Yaris design do you like better?

the one above is better and comparing with the facelifted version released last March, this one really looks all new.. i just don't like the tail lights and of course, its price tag..

Pareho lang yata ng design, the difference of 2 photos is the door number. Sana eh introduce na yan dito.

@Feeter, both of the photos above is that of the new gen Yaris sold in Europe, US and Japan (Vitz), Current sales of the Yaris in Thailand are poor, according to some rumors, the current Yaris made in Thailand could be the last ASEAN Yaris. A new model possibly based on the Indian Etios hatch and sedan could replace the Yaris and Vios in ASEAN markets.

Does it mean that when it comes to small cars, walang binatbat ang Toyota vs Kia or Hyundai dito sa ASEAN nations?

May view minsan ang ilang vehicles, including this one, na parang mas maliit ang rear wheel vs front wheel. Try looking at Strada ng naka side view. parang mas maliit ang rear wheel pero same size naman ang all wheels. Sabi nga nila, "dahil sa design"..

only one thing is certain: cost-cutting..... Toyota already used this trick with the Corolla Altis and other models. they launched these "new-gen" models at a time when the world economy was fragile and priced them as close to the old-gen. i think Toyota saved a lot of money by just redesigning the old-gen. in the end, people still bought a Toyota because of the brand's reputation and the attractive pricing.

cost cutting pa ba LFA?:)) di naman siguro ganyan, may mga ibang brands pa mas mura sa toyota like hyundai pero mas trust nila ung quality ng toyota- years of exellence dude

A little bit like Mazda 3, but I like this better... why would TMP would not release this All New Yaris rather than making just a facelift?
  • maranello_5775 May 20 2012 @ 11:53pm
I think this is an all new model of the yaris and not a mere facelift
