US environmental agency calls all-new Ford Escape 'most fuel-efficient small SUV'

TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - US environmental agency calls all-new Ford Escape as most fuel efficient small SUV

The all-new Ford Escape has just been named by the United States' Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as "the most fuel-efficient small SUV with an automatic."

According to the agency, the fuel consumption of Ford's 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine for the Escape is 33mpg (14.030km/L), which is 2mpg (0.850km/L) better than the Honda CR-V and 5mpg (2.126km/L) better than the Toyota RAV4.

With the 2.0-liter EcoBoost mill, the Escape's fuel consumption has been certified as yielding 30mpg on the highway by the agency, while the 2.5-liter powerplant offers 31mpg on the highway (a 3mpg improvement over the outgoing engine) and 22mpg in the city.

This makes all three engines of the all-new Escape as EPA-certified at 30mpg or more on the highway.

Ford added that the Escape with EcoBoost engines are mated to specially calibrated, six-speed SelectShift automatic transmissions as standard.

"The fuel economy of the all-new Escape showcases the continued success of Ford’s development of smaller yet more powerful engines," said Raj Nair, group vice president for Ford's global product development. "Ford understands people want fuel-efficient vehicles without sacrificing power and space requirements."

Ford has just completed their new manufacturing facility in Thailand that will assemble the 2012 Focus middle of this year, according to Ford Philippines, the Focus will come first. I guess they are saving the 2013 Escape (or Kuga, whichever name the decide to use) for next year.

    • carwiki May 02 2012 @ 09:07am
      Tucson look alike? Isip-isip dude.

Yung front. Is that Tucson look alike? Ang layo diba? Yung grille ng Tucson hexagonal (meaning pa-hexagon). Mukha nga siyang Focus eh. And then the sides, magkaiba sa Tucson.

Try to look at the picture again.

      Cheers!

@Allain, Ford was first with the Kinetic Design Styling, the 2013 Escape aka 2013 Kuga is an evolution of the 1st 2008MY Kuga that was launched in 2007. http://photo.netcarshow.com/Ford-Kuga_2008_photo_14.jpg
  • manongtaxi May 01 2012 @ 04:25pm
  • Fernando Amorsolo May 01 2012 @ 05:42pm
Let's wait till it lands on our country.
If people were just keen on choosing cars, not just basing their selections depende sa "IN", sa looks na would easily pass out in time, sa sulsol ng kapitbahay and everything else.
    • RS500 May 01 2012 @ 06:58pm
      • manongtaxi May 01 2012 @ 07:14pm
        • RS500 May 01 2012 @ 08:14pm
          • manongtaxi May 01 2012 @ 09:58pm
sabi nga nila sa isang movie "the boy that dies with the most toys wins"
      • gogogo May 01 2012 @ 10:04pm
        • manongtaxi May 01 2012 @ 10:18pm
          • gogogo May 02 2012 @ 08:54am
          • gasoline_boy May 02 2012 @ 10:03am
yup tama, luxury para sa mga pinoy ang kotse, kasi hindi kaya ng salary ng most ordinary employees na bumili as compared sa ibang bansa.. but then its a touchy topic coz our government needs the tax money to run our country, kaso its another touchy topic coz parang wala naman pagbabago sa ating bansa as compared sa ating mga kapitbahay for example singapore, thailand etc.. anyway back to the escape.. eto mga kelangan na nirerelease dito sa atinm fuel miser but stilll looks damn so good, hopefully irelease ito agad ng ford dito sa atin.. the earlier the better.. baka naman irelease nila eto eh naka pag upgrade na yung mga competitors nila which would render it obsolete. :) just my opinion guys..
      • Feeter Silverster May 02 2012 @ 06:34am
        • gogogo May 02 2012 @ 08:59am
  • jabroni May 01 2012 @ 10:30pm
  • neutral May 01 2012 @ 11:12pm
Is the 2.0L ecoboost of the escape the same with the explorer 2.0L ecoboost and is it the top of the line escape?
  • maklo02 May 01 2012 @ 11:39pm
Bakita parang lahat na lang ng bagong labas na SUV, Tucson "look a like"? Hahaha I must agree the Tucson had a major (better) facelift from its previous look, but not all cars that go through a major facelift looks like the Tucson.
    • spherion03 May 01 2012 @ 11:49pm
      • maklo02 May 02 2012 @ 02:07am
        Nope! Ang layo. haha
      • gasoline_boy May 02 2012 @ 10:11am
yeah hindi nga, sobrang layo.. :) just saw two of those(CX-5) on my way to the office this morning, CRV kaya look alike din? :) though for me its not a major facelift..
        • gogogo May 02 2012 @ 11:03am
    • AM3 May 02 2012 @ 07:48pm
Actually Ford was ahead, the 2013 Escape aka 2013 Kuga is an evolution of the 1st 2008MY Kuga that was launched in 2007. http://photo.netcarshow.com/Ford-Kuga_2008_photo_14.jpg
  • spherion03 May 01 2012 @ 11:48pm
THIS!! is the SUV I'm looking forward to seeing in our country, rather than that of Ford Ecosport!! :)
  • GTR911R8 May 02 2012 @ 02:15am
i hope it roll-out here in the PHL so that it can be tried and tested to a different environment here in the metro..., BTW its a good news for the american motors, they have completely improved the fuel consumption of their vehicles...
  • mark14 May 02 2012 @ 10:07am
hindi ba mas fuel-efficient ang CX-5 na umaabot ng 35mpg?
    • AM3 May 02 2012 @ 07:43pm
If you read it well they said "the most fuel-efficient small SUV with an automatic." The CX-5 that can do 35mpg is a manual, the automatic model of the CX-5 is less fuel efficient that the new Escape.
      • mark14 May 03 2012 @ 10:00am
didn't see that. thanks for pointing that out. :D
  • iskwakalogz May 02 2012 @ 11:29am
A lesson from Ford when they always bring here their gas guzzling cars.. remember Lynx 1.3? its a blast but it sucks fuel more than 2.0 Camry.. Let the EDSA traffic condition judge the fuel efficiency of this new baby..
  • kapangyarihan_ng_kabayo May 02 2012 @ 12:34pm
May diesel variant kaya itong 2012/3 Ford Escape?
    • gogogo May 02 2012 @ 01:11pm
wala diesel variant yung escape eh. buti pa yung focus meron. hehehe :)
    • AM3 May 02 2012 @ 07:46pm
In Europe the identical all-new 2013 Kuga has diesel variants. The 2013 Escape and 2013 Kuga have been merged into one model.
  • sachiel May 02 2012 @ 12:46pm
  • cypher_topgear06@yahoo.co May 02 2012 @ 12:53pm
Does the EcoBoost mean it's fitted with a turbo?
    • AM3 May 02 2012 @ 07:50pm
Yes, to be more specific its a combination of a Turbo, direct injection and Ti-VCT (Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing)
  • torquebender May 02 2012 @ 02:57pm
i wish time will come, every car on the road has 50mpg fuel consumption on them
    • cypher_topgear06@yahoo.co May 02 2012 @ 03:09pm
That will happen when the fuel is already very scarce and the price then will be very high. Nothing can stop fuel prices from rising anyway. :D
