Volkswagen Up! bags World Car of the Year title

The Volkswagen Up! has been named the 2012 World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show, besting the all-new Porsche 911 and BMW 3-Series.

"This award shows once again that in the Up! our designers and engineers have created a vehicle that has been thought through in minute detail--a vehicle that sets standards in its class for efficient use of space, safety, motoring fun and environmental compatibility," said Martin Winterkorn, chairman of the board of management of Volkswagen AG.

The World Car of the Year award is the latest honor to be bestowed on the Up! city car. Shortly after it went on sale in December 2011, it topped the statistics for new-vehicle registration in Germany and received the maximum five-star rating from the Euro New Car Assessment Program as well as the 'Advanced Award' for its city emergency-braking system. The iF Design Institute also gave the Up! its 'iF design award in Gold'.

The Volkswagen Up! was first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show November 2011.

    volkswagen has been very assiduous in making sure that the over all design of their invention is a legacy of efficiency, mass appeal and lasts long with certainty. hope that BMW brings in the volkswagen in our shores.

    kailan kaya babalik ang VW dito? may BMW, Audi, Mercedes at Porsche na dito pero wala pa ring VW.

    When will Volkswagen go back here? Well anyways Nice job Volkswagen you guy's got a five-star rating from the Euro New Car Assessment Program and the VW UP! looks nice and I hope Volkswagen will go back here in the Philippines.

    pag bumalik dito yung VW sa tingin ko dadami agad yung golf at scirocco basta sa tamang presyo. hehehe :)

    Someone please bring back VW here in the Philippines! Promise benta ang VW dito and since established na nga ang name Audi dito, people want Audi quality for less, and VW delivers that since VW owns Audi! Can't afford an A4? Buy a 2012 facelifted Volkswagen CC, though the CC is a 4-door coupe! :D Can't afford an RS3? Buy a Volkswagen Scirocco R! :D Want something different aside from an Accord, and Camry? Buy a Volkswagen Passat! :)

    vw are nice. I also like the golf 3-door hatch. a lot of them here in Canada. our PM , a Hond Civic fan, now also owns a VW Passat.

    I hope vw will be revived in RP.
