The 2-Series Active Tourer is not only BMW's first compact MPV, it's also the German brand's first FWD(front-wheel drive)-based consumer model (which was soon followed by the all-new X1 crossover). Of course BMW is no stranger to FWD, its retro MINI brand is probably one of the world's best handling FWD cars, and the 2-series Active Tourer shares its basic UKL2 platform architecture and drivetrain with the recently launched all-new MINI Clubman. This platform allowed BMW to make a roomier, more space-efficient and versatile model while keeping its exterior dimensions compact, something that couldn't have been done with a RWD architecture. Think of it as a more modern and more practical BMW-flavored alternative to its stylish retro MINI cousin.
Powering this bimmer is a little turbocharged 1.5-liter inline 3 engine which produces 134hp and 220Nm of torque. It's mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
