Overview

The Hyundai Accent is the Korean brand’s sub-compact car. It replaced the Excel econobox in the mid-90s, since then it has made its long journey moving upmarket. During its two decade long evolution, it gained more style, grew bigger, had improved quality and gained better mechanicals. The fourth gen Hyundai Accent which was introduced in the local market at the end of 2010 is one of the first models of the Korean carmaker to feature its Fluidic Sculpture Design, a look that features smooth flowing shapes and lines. In late 2017 the more upmarket looking all-new fifth gen Accent made its global debut, HARI unveiled it in December 2018 for the 2019 model year.

The all-new Hyundai Accent is slightly larger than the model it replaces, its 15mm longer, 29mm wider, and rides on a 10mm longer wheelbase, the increased dimensions give it a roomier interior and a more generous trunk. Like its bigger brothers it now sports a sleeker semi-fastback roofline and sharper styling. Up front it receives Hyundai’s new cascading grille design which is flanked by more angular halogen headlights. Its sides have been cleaned up for a more upscale feel; a full-length character line runs from the headlights all the way to the taillights which now feature a slimmer, more horizontal Elantra-esque design. Inside the new Accent gets a more upmarket dashboard. Its instrument cluster features a complete set of basic gauges, both analog and digital. Its dashboard now features a revised infotainment system with a 3.8-inch LCD display; this is flanked by larger vertical central aircon vents. Rear AC vents are standard on all variants,

The new Hyundai Accent will continue to be offered with two engine choices. The base 1.4-liter Dual CVVT gasoline mill makes 99hp and 132Nm of torque, and a more powerful fuel efficient U-II 1.6-liter VGT oil burner which produces 126hp and 260Nm of torque. Both powerplants can be mated to a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic tranny.

The all-new Accent features a more solid structure thanks to an increased use of advanced high-strength steel. Torsional rigidity has also been increased. According to Hyundai, the Accent meets the latest crash safety standards of USA’s National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration. Aside from improving safety, the more rigid body construction also reduces noise and gives the vehicle better driving dynamics. Like before, the new Accent’s suspension is standard sub-compact fare, MacPherson struts up front and a semi-independent torsion beam at the rear. Steering is by rack and pinion with electric power assist. As with the model it replaces, it gets vented front disc brakes and drum rear brakes. The wheel size has been increased from 14-inches to 15-inches.

On the safety side of things, driver and passenger SRS airbags is standard on CRDi variants and optional on gasoline variants. When it comes to standard convenience features, it comes with the basic kit which includes power windows, power mirrors, and power door locks with central locking. Keyless entry is standard on CRDi variants of the Hyundai Accent.
