Mitsubishi's Outlander is back, and this time it will only be offered in the Philippine market as a PHEV or "plug-in hybrid electric vehicle". While we see Mitsubishi's now familiar Dynamic Shield corporate face, the overall design language of the new Outlander is less aggressive than its other SUV and crossover siblings. It features softer flowing lines devoid of sharp edges and dramatic shapes and protrusions. This design theme extends to the hybrid SUV's interior. Motivating the Outlander PHEV is a 126hp 2.4-liter MIVEC gasoline engine paired to two electric motors (60kW in front, and 70kW at the rear). The Japanese carmaker's S-AWC (Super All-Wheel Control) all-wheel drive system is standard. The hybrid system has three modes: pure electric, electric w/ gasoline engine assist, and gasoline engine w/ electric assist.
