The first ever Suzuki Ertiga made its debut in 2012, it was introduced in the local market in 2014; this subcompact MPV nicely filled the gap between the more commercial APV van and the Japanese brand’s range of small cars.
For the 2019 model year, Suzuki introduced the second generation Ertiga people mover. Measuring 4395mm x 1735mm x 1690mm, the latest generation Ertiga has grown in every direction. Like its predecessor it retains its tall roofline which allows it to have a cavernous interior, the most noticeable change in its profile is its A-pillars which have been pushed back, this gives it a more prominent hood. Up front, it has wide chrome grille which now sits more upright, this is flanked by slim angular headlights. Moving to the sides, it features a prominent character line that runs that begins from the front wheel arch all the way to the rear of the vehicle. Like the new Swift, the latest Ertiga’s rearmost pillar has a blacked out section for that trendy floating roof-look. At the back, it gets distinctive looking L-shaped taillights. For 2020, the Ertiga gets new wheel designs. Inside, the new Ertiga gets a more upmarket European-inspired dashboard with a more horizontal design. This is complimented by sporty flat-bottom three-spoke steering wheel. The instrument cluster gets a built-in multi-info display between the large analog speedometer and tachometer. Variants starting from the GL and up come with touch screen. Like the model it replaces, its AC can be controlled via easy to use rotary knobs. Higher variants get cooled front cup holders. Like before, the new Ertiga has a second row aircon with adjustable blower speed. The Ertiga retains its long 2,740 mm wheelbase which allows it to have a spacious interior that can accommodate seven passengers. Its 60:40 split folding second row seats and 50:50 split folding third row seats allow the cargo room to be expanded.
Under the all-new Suzuki Ertiga’s hood is a larger K15B 1.5-liter DOHC inline-4 gasoline mill which features VVT technology, this replaces the previous version’s 1.4-liter unit. The new motor puts out 103hp and 138Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels either through a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic tranny. The all-new Ertiga rides on Suzuki’s new generation HEARTECT platform which is lighter and more rigid, this new architecture also reduces noise and vibration. Up front the new Ertiga uses independent MacPherson struts, at the back it uses a space-saving torsion beam setup. Like before, all Ertiga variants come with electric power steering. On the safety front, all Suzuki Ertiga variants come with dual-airbags, ABS with EBD, side impact beams, childproof rear door locks, and ISOFIX child seat anchors and tethers. The GL variants get rear parking sensors.
