Is it okay to use my car's A/C on the track?

Will it affect performance?

Hi TG Team!

Can you use the air-con while driving at high speeds on the track?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

Regards,

Chito C.

Dear Chito C.

I know exactly where you’re coming from. It can get rather hot on a track and in a helmet. Cool air feels so good when it gets that hot. However, your air-conditioner’s compressor is an additional load on your engine, and actually draws power from it. While on the track and in competition, you want all the power that your engine can give you. But I digress, you just want to know if you can use your air-conditioner on the track at high speeds.

Most modern car air-con compressors have a high-pressure automatic cut-off switch that disengages the compressor at wide open throttle (WOT), so if you're using a recent model car there are built-in limitations with track use.

Now, if you have an older car and you don’t know if your compressor automatically disengages at WOT, I suggest you at least turn off your compressor by putting in a cut-off switch. This will allow you to disengage your compressor when you need to go all out.

Be cool!
