The City may be Honda’s best-selling model now, but the most popular badge in its stable is still arguably the Civic. This vehicle is nothing short of iconic in the eyes of many Filipinos.

When the 10th generation of this Japanese legend finally arrived in the Philippine market in 2016, there was unreal hype leading to its launch. With a turbo in the lineup for the first time, it lived up to every expectation.

Fast forward to 2019, Honda Cars Philippines saw it fit to give its storied nameplate a refresh, as well as add in a new base variant along the way. If you want to get up to speed about the latest iteration of the Honda Civic, read on.

Exterior

The refreshed Civic sports the same overall look as the pre-facelift design. It still features a wide, aggressive front fascia that’s accentuated nicely by the thin headlamps and an aggressive grille. At the rear, it wears familiar clamp-shaped taillights. The exterior also has a nice contrast to it, with a decent amount of black highlights all around. Overall, it has a sporty look to it, especially with a wing-type trunk spoiler on the top-of-the-line variant.

As it stands, this Civic measures at 4,649mm x 1,799mm x 1,416mm with a 2,698mm wheelbase and 133mm of ground clearance. It sits on 16-inch shark gray or metallic alloy wheels, or 18-inch RS-design alloy wheels. This car comes in Lunar Silver Metallic, Cosmic Blue Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, or Rallye Red—availability of these colors depend on what variant you’ll be getting.

The cabin boasts a premium and executive vibe, with a dark-colored interior highlighted ever so slightly by some contrast stitchings all around. These stitchings come in either red or white and can be found on the seats, side panels, steering wheel, and shifter. The seats, meanwhile, come in either fabric or leather. The tiller is equipped with paddle shifters, and behind it is a cluster gauge that come in two types: A full-color TFT or LCD display.

Engine and specs

The refresh of the current-generation Civic saw no changes under the hood. It still packs either a 1.5-liter turbocharged VTEC or a 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine. The former produces 171hp and 220Nm, while the latter has a maximum output of 139hp and 174Nm—both engine options come mated to an Earth Dreams Technology CVT (CVT) which send power to the front wheels.

The suspension setup, on the other hand, is comprised of MacPherson struts with stabilizers up front and a multi-link suspension at the rear. Stopping power is provided by ventilated discs and solid discs in front and at the back, respectively. Fuel capacity maxes out at 47 liters.

Extra features

A bunch of added goodies can be enjoyed here. Safety features include two airbags on the front row, vehicle stability assist, hill start assist, ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, emergency stop signal, a multi-view reverse camera, and speed sensing door locks—all of which come as standard. Save for the base variant, it also features a keyless entry system with a push-start button, as well as walk-away auto-lock function.

The entertainment system is headlined by a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The base variant features a four-speaker setup, while the higher trims have six speakers in total and also come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
