With the likes of the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Nissan Navara, the local pickup scene is easily one of the most crowded in the auto industry. All three of these models also recently underwent substantial refreshes, meaning whatever manufacturer is interested in taking them on should have something new to bring to the table, too.
Thankfully for Isuzu Philippines, it has the all-new D-Max leading its charge in 2021. With a drastically new look, an overhauled interior, and a new 3.0-liter 4JJ3-TCX Blue Power turbodiesel engine (187hp and 450Nm of torque) under the hood, the brand’s iconic workhorse is well-equipped to appeal to the contemporary Pinoy buyer.
But how does it perform? Well, Top Gear Philippines writer Niky Tamayo is here to answer the question in an incredibly thorough fashion.
“This truck has a lot more going for it. It’s got the new 4JJ3 , it’s got a new chassis, a new body, it’s got the new interior—everything feels modern and new,” Tamayo says in the video above.
“Whether or not it’s class-leading, we’ll have to wait for other competitors coming out this year to find out. But I can safely say this is near the top of the class in every category that really matters to buyers, and even some categories that don’t.”
Sound like the 2021 D-Max is more than capable enough to run with other brands’ big guns in 2021. Is this a car that’s currently sitting on your shortlist? Let us know in the comments.
