If you want a car that’ll stand out from the crowd, you don’t need a mind-bendingly quick modern supercar or an ultra-luxurious limo. Everyone’s got one of them. What you really want is one of these—a ’60s Amphicar Model 770.
Yep, as you might have guessed from the image of it sitting in a swimming pool, that this is half-car, half-boat. Super-cute, too, isn’t it?
Less than 4,000 units were built in Germany back in the ’60s, so it’s a rare beast. This particular example is actually up for sale via Car & Classic, with bidding at the time of writing up to £36,000 (P2.5 million). Expect that to skyrocket, though, because the current owner has just spent over £83,000 (P5.73 million) restoring this little piece of amphibious history.
It’s just wonderful, with the Triumph Herald-sourced four-cylinder engine now making around 45hp (and able to run on E10 petrol). Almost every single component has been given the once-over since this car came over from America at the end of 2017, and in the UK, it can be legally used on highways and waterways.
How much should it sell for, folks?
