An upcoming Bullitt film directed by Steven Spielberg has supposedly found its lead.

According to a report by Deadline, Bradley Cooper has agreed to take on the role of San Francisco cop Frank Bullitt. The character was originally played by Steve McQueen, whose portrayal is considered one of the film star’s most iconic roles.

Details remain scarce, but Deadline also added that the new Bullitt film will not be a remake of the 1968 classic. The project will supposedly have an original story, and Josh Singer has reportedly been tasked with writing the script. Members of Steve McQueen’s family have also been tapped as the new film’s executive producers.

Cooper and Spielberg have reportedly been interested in a new Bullitt film for a while now. According to Deadline, the film star and legendary director were discussing the project “going all the way back to the pandemic when everyone was stuck in quarantine and had nothing but time on their hands.”

We think it’s safe to say that Cooper has some rather large shoes to fill here. Do you think he’s up to the task? Let us know in the comments.
