This is what cycling along SLEX looks like*

We’ve seen a lot of interesting stuff make their way onto the major expressways, like that small scooter that managed to get in to the Cavite-Manila Expressway a while back, as well as that stranded kitten along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX). This time around, it’s a bicycle that has somehow entered an expressway. Well, sort of…

Obviously, the photo above suggests that the bike didn’t actually run along SLEX. It’s a snippet from a video that recently made rounds on social media that shows a bike supposedly running along the southern tollway. Before we get into it, you should check out the clip to get an idea of what we’re talking about.

Rather amusing, isn’t it? We reached out to Neil Confesor, the owner of the video, to find out a bit more about it. The guy—who’s a photographer and videographer based south of the metro—happily shared with us the entire process.

Confesor said that it started when he bought a new GoPro Hero9. He mounted the camera on his motorcycle’s headlight and rode along SLEX to test it out. The raw footage turned out great but he also found it a bit boring, so he decided to play around with it a bit. As a cyclist himself, he decided to simulate a bicycle ride along the tollway instead to make things more interesting.

He mounted a camera on his bicycle and placed a small green screen in front. This was used to display the original footage GoPro. Confesor then decided to add some realistic touches to it by placing a blower underneath the handlebar to flap the paper bills as if the bike was actually moving along the freeway. He later on added some digital camera shake to make it look even more true to life.

Confesor shared that the original footage aside, the entire thing took him just a little over an hour to make. Suffice to say, the video wasn’t a flunk, which actually came as a surprise to Confesor. “I didn’t realize people would react to it. Some thought it was impossible, some said it was fake, and others were entertained. In the end, I would just like to thank everyone who watched and shared the video,” he concluded.

What do you think of the video? Did you get a good laugh out of it, too?
