With the number of compact SUVs coming out, finding one that mixes efficiency and performance can be a tall order.

The new Ford EcoSport, a revamped version of a popular compact SUV, was recently launched at an event in Bonifacio Global CityFord's latest offering packs a host of improvements that builds on its predecessor's established city-friendly package.

At the heart of this update is the availability of a new engine option: the 1.0-liter EcoBoost underneath the hood of the top-of-the-line Titanium variant.

The EcoSport has gone turbo, and the new mill produces a healthy 125hp and 170Nm of torque. Meanwhile, lower units pack a new and more powerful 1.5-liter TiVCT engine that is capable of 123hp and 150Nm. You can get both engines mated to a new six-speed automatic transmission unless you prefer a five-speed manual, which is only available in the Trend and Ambiente variants.

There's more to this vehicle than added performance, though. Anyone who's ever found themselves attracted to the EcoSport's compact size and relatively rugged aesthetics will be pleased to learn that Ford has improved the car's design, too.

Its new look is more in line with the rest of the American carmaker's lineup: bigger headlight designs, new 17-inch alloy wheels, nice plastic all around, and a more dominating grille up front. Combined with 209mm of ground clearance and a macho profile, what you have is a car that looks bigger than its on-paper dimensions suggest.

Step inside and discover neat upgrades to the interior, particularly the new SYNC 3 touchscreen infotainment system. It has a sleek, simple interface that's easy to operate, a built-in reverse camera, as well as navigation features. Combined with seamless phone connectivity via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and the vehicle's sound system, this thing will keep you entertained while stuck in traffic.

Other improvements to the interior are nearly as significant: a cleaner steering wheel layout, new instrument cluster, and more airbags. The cabin now has 25 storage compartments and up to 1,178 liters of luggage capacity with all the seats folded, making it ideal for road trips.

The terms "new" and "revamped" may be thrown around a lot, and anything from a slightly altered bumper to a little extra chrome on the side mirrors can be considered an update these days. But what Ford has done with the EcoSport is about as substantial as updates come.

Ford hasn't just doubled down on its strengths with the new EcoSport, it has also streamlined the entire compact SUV ownership experience altogether.
