A garage is more than just a personal parking space—it’s a place where both work and play happen, where you can experiment with styling and performance upgrades, and where you can really get up close and personal with your ride.
It takes a lot of work to put together a dream garage. You’ll need patience, a decent budget, and some car-maintenance know-how. To help you out, we’ve put together this handy guide to make sure you’re headed in the right direction:
Mind the space
A single-car garage should be at least 22 feet long and 18 feet wide. This will give you just enough space for routine home maintenance. If you’re determined to carry out DIY work on your car, your garage needs to be at least 25 feet long and 24 feet wide—this way, you'll have more working and storage space.
Buy all the maintenance essentials.
Make sure these items are always in your garage:
- Microfiber cleaning cloths
- Car shampoo
- Work gloves
- Tire black
- Fabric and/or leather shampoo
- Glass cleaner
- Carjack and cross wrench
- Organizer boxes
- Fire extinguisher
- First-aid kit
Master the basics
Read the car owner’s manual at least once, and keep it in a cool, dry place in your garage. The same goes for the instruction manuals of replacement or aftermarket parts you install on your vehicle.
Speaking of parts, it’s best to go with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) items—they're tailor-made for your vehicle, after all. But if you want to try other components, don’t hesitate to consult car-maintenance experts. Getting firsthand information is better than just reading up product reviews on the web.
One last tip: The 2018 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), happening from April 3 to 5 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, will have everything you need to build your dream garage.
Not only will you get a sneak peek at all the new vehicles, you will also get the chance to source original parts from manufacturers like BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Foton, Gaz, Hyundai, Isuzu, Jaguar, Jeep, Mazda, Mercedez-Benz, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Suzuki, and more. Plus, you’ll be able to score great deals and join promos from over 100 exhibitors.
Follow the MIAS Facebook page for more details.
