The Honda CR-Z taught us that hybrids can be fun and exciting

It's almost sad that with the signing of the tax reform law, along with friendlier tariffs for EVs and hybrids, the Honda CR-Z is no longer on sale. Had this law, or something like it, been signed 24 months earlier, we might have enjoyed more affordable prices for one of our favorite car models. 

When it comes to fondness for this Honda hybrid, we know we're the minority here. The CR-Z is a hatchback and is powered by a gasoline-electric powerplant; both traits characteristically unpopular with the Filipino market. 

And what a drive it can give. It's nimble, responsive and charming on the road. On open highways it shudders a little, but it's still stable. Press the S+ button and the five-second boost will press you against the seat and, for the briefest of moments, lets you think you're Kimi Raikkonen overtaking using KERS. 

The CR-Z was never about pure speed, raw acceleration or ambitious design. It's always been about a fun drive that showcases how hybrids can be exciting.
