The shoes you wear behind the wheel can play a part in how well you drive. Whether or not your footwear can make you a driver, though, is at the very least up for debate.
Obviously, if you’re attempting to heel-and-toe on the regular while wearing Crocs, moving up to proper driving shoes can do wonders. Changing to a specific pair of sneakers from a regular driving shoe, however, probably won’t net you the same effect.
Or can it?
To find out, motoring vlogger Noriyaro took to the drift track sporting a pair of New Balance sneakers featured in Initial D.
“So, the question is can anime meme shoes make you drift better?” he says, as he hops into the driver’s seat of a rusty old Toyota AE86 he bought during the COVID-19 pandemic. Watch:
“All right, so what’s the conclusion? Are these good shoes to drift in? The answer, I think, is not really. With this heel like that, all of your weight goes to that one little point and it’s kind of difficult to rotate around. It should be like flat. Not a little point there, like a regular skate shoe,” Noriyaro concludes, adding that it was never the shoes that made Takumi a good drifter.
Well, that settles that. Although, if we’re being honest, this was a cool excuse to burn some rubber. Let us know what your ideal driving shoe is in the comments.
