“Wow, new iPhone.” It’s like that every year come Apple’s keynote where the tech giant reveals its newest range of gadgets and gizmos. But this year was a bit special, as there were a lot of notable changes with the brand’s flagship smartphone.

Apart from the removal (or rework/reduction) of the notch is the addition of the crash detection feature in the iPhone 14—if this is your first time learning about this, you can brush up on the new tech here. However, while it’s an extremely handy emergency function, we can’t really test it properly without a simulated crash.

Luckily for us, there are YouTubers like TechRax willing to do that kind of work for all of us.

The YouTuber recently uploaded a video showing how he tested the iPhone 14 Pro’s new emergency feature and proved that it actually works. The iPhone was strapped onto the driver’s seat headrest of an unmanned vehicle that’s been rigged to allow remote operation.

The car then rolled onto a stack of vehicle debris not at blistering speeds but at just the right pace to serve as a ‘crash.’ It was enough to then trigger the crash detection function, which started a countdown that if not stopped manually will prompt the phone to connect to any available emergency services. For good measure, the same test was done twice.

Needless to say, don’t try this at home. The video description says this was “filmed in a safe and controlled environment,” and we believe that. You can just check out the full clip below to see how this iPhone feature works.
