Throwback Thursday: Ever heard of ‘Jimnying’ in Japan?

It’s all sorts of crazy but also a whole lot of fun

For us, the Suzuki Jimny never ceases to impress.

Yes, it’s a quirky little vehicle that definitely turns heads when it drives past. But it was only recently that Top Gear PH associate off-road editor Beeboy Bargas got to take the Jimny out onto tricky terrain, and the sight of the tiny 4x4 finally getting pushed to its limits—by an off-road veteran, no less—sparked a new kind of excitement for those of us who have grown pretty fond of the little SUV.

Some of our friends (who are fellow Jimny fans themselves) share our sentiments, and one of them even sent us this really old YouTube video of a bunch of Japanese drivers ‘Jimnying’ and going absolutely nuts. In case you haven’t heard of it yet (you probably haven’t), ‘Jimnying’ is simply the act of taking a bunch of Suzuki Jimnys off-road in the middle of the night. Why do that? Just for sheer fun, of course.

Now, as we said, this is a pretty old video, so you won’t see any fourth-generation Jimnys here—in fact, these are even kei-car versions of the little Suzuki. But then again, we figured it would be a good throwback Thursday piece to share with you guys. Besides, the video is still as fun to watch as it was four years ago, and there’s a good chance that not a lot of you have seen it before, so here you go. Enjoy.
