Many Filipinos who lost their jobs and businesses due to this pandemic have since shifted to working as full-time delivery riders and drivers. To encourage more people looking for a source of income amid these trying times, Lalamove is now sharing the stories of two of its partners who were successful in making ends meet by providing courier services.
One delivery partner is Alvin Castillo—the guy on the left in the photo above. He was a former hotel staff34 who now uses his motorcycle as his primary source of income. “Dati akong nagtatrabaho sa hotel bilang staff doon, since nagkaroon ng pandemya, kasama ako sa natanggal,” Castillo says. “Sa awa ng Diyos na-process agad ang application ko.”
Castillo shares that he was surprised that he now earns more than he did when he was working in a hotel. “Nakakuha ng panggastos para sa aking pamilya. Nagkaroon din ako ng savings, nakababayad ng bills at extra income. Hindi katulad sa dati kong trabaho. Ngayon dumodoble na ang kita ko sa Lalamove, samahan lang ng sipag at tiyaga.”
The other new partner is Arnold Baroquillo. He used to be a business owner before the pandemic hit, but he has now shifted to delivering goods for a living. “Naghanap ako ng ibang pagkakakitaan dahil nagkaproblema ang negosyo namin. Ginamit ko yung sasakyan namin at nakipagsapalaran sa Lalamove,” Baroquillo shares.
“Noong [nag-pandemic], dinere-deretso ko na ang pagbiyahe. Para sa pamilya ko, para sa kabuhayan namin, para kumita ako, para sa lahat ng bayarin,” he adds. “Salamat sa suporta at pagibibigay ng motivation sakin, sila lang ang dahilan ko para magtrabaho. Kailangan lang talaga maging pasensyoso at masipag sa delivery.”
