Auction finds: A pristine Lamborghini LM002 is going under the hammer

The Lamborghini Urus? It’s one hell of an SUV, all right. It’s practical, thanks to its size and height advantage over stablemates like the Aventador and the Huracan, but at the same time, it packs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 641hp and 850Nm.

It’s not the first of its kind, though. It isn’t the first ‘practical’ supercar. Hell, it isn’t even the first Lamborghini to try out the formula, either.

That honor belongs to the Lamborghini LM002, a super-truck from the ’80s with military underpinnings and a bonkers V12 engine underneath the hood. This is the model that started it all. No LM002, probably no Urus.

Only a total of 328 were produced between 1986 and 1993, and, if you have €225,000 to €275,000 (P13 million to P16 million) stagnant in a bank account somewhere, you now have a shot at owning one as a secondhand unit is going up for auction on RM Sotheby’s later this month.

A few details to note, though, before you throw a massive wad of cash at this. This particular unit was originally finished in dark blue, but it now flaunts a stealthy black exterior. The vehicle was delivered to Switzerland in 1988 and had its L510 engine rebuilt eight years later. An engine overhaul was then performed in 2009.  

Judging by the photos, it’s in pristine condition, too. The exterior looks perfect, and all the leather bits inside look incredible considering the age of the unit.
