Last year, we bid a sad farewell to the Mitsubishi Adventure. The AUV was loved by Filipinos throughout its tenure, and it served us well whether as a family vehicle, UV Express, or road trip vehicle for the whole barangay. But like all good things, its time had come to an end.
Somewhat succeeding the Adventure is this, the much awaited Mitsubishi Xpander. We say somewhat, because it's more of a spiritual successor than anything else. You see, while the era of the AUV might be over, a new segment is booming--one that sits somewhere between the small MPVs and the midsize SUVs. First there was the Honda BR-V, then the Xpander, and now Toyota is throwing its hat into the mix with the Rush. All seven-seaters, and all equipped with 1.5-liter gasoline engines.
We first got to drive the Xpander in Japan late last year, and we were impressed. Fast forward a few months, and we were fortunate enough to be granted first dibs on it on Philippine soil.
