“A barely-driven 20-year-old car in a detailing video? Must be another disgusting barn find.”
Fortunately, it isn’t. It’s more like an auction find. Pictured above is a 1997 Porsche 993 C4S with a little over 1,700km on the clock. It was recently driven into the Ammo NYC garage for its first detail in 24 years, and while its paint has never been polished, the car is still in excellent condition.
That’s not to say that it doesn’t need any work. There are scratches and swirls on the body, and it’s clear that it needs a good touch-up. The interior bits show signs of aging as well. But overall, there’s nothing too absurd.
Now, in most detailing jobs that we’ve seen from these guys, they’re trying to ‘save’ a dying car that’s already of little value. Here, it’s the complete opposite—the rare 911’s been properly taken care of through the years, and it’s already worth a lot of money as it is.
This means the guys doing the job have to be extremely careful so as not to make any mistakes, as even little ones could be costly. Plus, the owner wanted the detailed paint to be as close to the original as possible.
This particular clip is a lot like the Glickenhaus Ferrari P4/5 detailing job in the sense that it isn’t extremely satisfying as other disgusting detailing jobs, but it’s still a sight for sore eyes. It’s a valuable classic car that’s been given a lot of love over the years, and that’s always something we like to see.
Anyway, enough chit-chat. You can check out the brief 12-minute clip below. Enjoy.
