It’s not every day we get behind the wheel of a Range Rover, and it’s not every day that Range Rover turns 50. To celebrate half a century of rolling out luxury SUVs, the brand has even built the limited-edition Range Rover Fifty. Our way of joining the party? We try out the Range Rover Velar.

The Velar is a midsize crossover from the same brand that has brought us the Land Rover Defender. Unlike its more utilitarian stablemate, though, it’s super-sleek and has pretty much everything you’d expect from a modern luxury SUV.

Quick spec check, then: The Velar is powered  by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel that puts out 178hp and 430Nm via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Despite being classified as a midsize crossover, it’s got all the room you’ll ever need, whether you’re the driver or one of the passengers. Features include a power tailgate, automatic headlights, a high-res dual display, and plush leather seats, to name just a few.
