We’ve always found car restoration videos therapeutic. What kind of gearhead doesn’t like seeing a rotten classic return to its former glory, right? That’s why it’s hard to say no to these kinds of content when we come across them online.
During our recent strolls through cyberspace, though, we found a different kind of gem from what we’re used to seeing: a restoration job of a scale-model replica. Of course, we just had to see for ourselves.
The car featured here is a BMW Z4, but it’s evident that time (or its owners) hasn’t been kind to the tiny Bimmer—‘abandoned’ is the correct way to describe it. Aside from the fact that the car is covered in all sorts of dirt and grime, the car has a lot of missing parts, and its original paint can no longer be seen as well. It basically looks like a real car that was left out in a junkyard for a decade.
But despite its abysmal condition, YouTuber MrRescue, er, came to the rescue. Based on the guy’s channel, he’s pretty adept at these kinds of things. What he did to this Z4 was a ‘strip to metal’ job, tearing it apart down to the last piece and stripping the paint and rust off of everything.
All the parts were then repainted—from the roof to the under chassis—before they were put back together. To replace the missing pieces, the guy merely improvised or took spare parts from other destroyed models. The end result? A thing of beauty.
Now, how and why the model car even reached this sorry state is beyond us— what’s important is the Z4’s back in perfect shape. As a matter of fact, it may even be in better condition now than it was brand new. Anyway, just check out the video below to see the full restoration. Tell us what you think about it in the comments afterwards, too.
