The gaming laptop industry is one that’s constantly trying to go lighter with every new release. Portability is, after all, one of the keys to selling these devices. And weight factors in big time when you’re talking about playing the latest titles on the go.
If you think gaming laptops are shedding pounds at an alarming rate, though, you should pay attention to bicycle manufacturers. These dudes are really taking lightweight to ridiculous new levels.
One fine example of a bicycle that’s undergone the ultimate diet is the new CruX by Specialized. At a paltry 725g, this thing’s frame weighs less than many modern gaming laptops. For comparison, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14—a laptop model that constantly draws praises for packing high-end specs in a compact form factor—weighs over twice as much.
Specialized says the CruX’s ultra-light build and massive tire clearance make it the new industry standard for gravel bikes. Keep in mind, though, that the 725g weight only applies to the CruX’s frame and that a full set comes in a 7.25kg.
Another biggie to consider here is the price. The most affordable Specialized CruX frameset comes in at $3,200 (over P160,000). And if you want some wheels to get around, be prepared to shell out at least $4,200 (around P210,000).
So yeah, the CruX at 725g isn’t exactly ridable because you need a pair of wheels to get places. Still, the fact that a whole bicycle frame can weigh less than the water bottle it’s carrying is pretty impressive, right?
