So you’ve got a busted car collecting dust in your garage, and you’ve got quite a bit of money to spend. Would you rather go through all the trouble of restoring it, or would you opt to just sell it or scrap it for parts?
The guys at the throtl garage did none of these to a wrecked BMW E92. Instead, they rebuilt the Bimmer—or at least half of it—into a full racing rig. It’s not a super advanced type of sim with a virtual-reality setup and a multiple-axis motion simulator, but it’s arguably one of the coolest rigs we’ve seen yet.
The car’s steering column, center console, and pedals were all taken out to make way for the new Fanatec setup with a racing wheel, pedals, a shifter, and a handbrake. The windshield was also removed, and a massive ultra-wide monitor was mounted up front.
The driver’s seat was replaced with a Sparco bucket seat for the full racing experience. The rest of the dash and the interior trim were retained, and the passenger seat is still intact. A few speakers were installed inside the cabin to simulate the sound properly, so we reckon it feels like you’re driving an actual car when you’re inside this thing.
The team didn’t go into detail regarding the PC’s specs, but we can assume it’s got some high-performance components given how smoothly the games seem to run on it.
The only downside? This rig probably won’t fit in a regular bedroom or even a living room. But we don’t really care. If we had one like this, we’d allot half a slot inside our garage for it. Anyway, you can check out the full build video below:
