As traffic becomes more gridlocked with every ‘ber’ week, and inflation gradually erodes our hard-earned paychecks, the national conversation of late has been about the P1 billion lotto prize.

Winning the lotto is a fantasy that never goes away, but the thought of becoming a true peso billionaire has taken that fantasy to new heights. (Although technically 20% of that will be deducted as tax, but you’ll still be a multi-millionaire.)

The lotto mega prize has social media and Viber groups buzzing, even in non-related groups like dog lovers and moms.

As people who chronicle desirable automobiles for a living, we’re not immune to dreaming of what we would do with an amount like that. If you’re short of ideas on what cars to buy in case you’re the lucky winner, here are some ideas from Top Gear editors.

No need to thank us for the brilliant suggestions. But we do accept balato in the form of Miatas or FJ Cruisers.

“I’d buy a big property to live in with space for dogs and my cars. I’d buy a Lamborghini Aventador SV Jota and Porsche 911 GT3RS, a Porsche Macan Turbo for the wife, and more mods for my Supra and FJ, then invest the rest back into my business and keep working.” – Botchi Santos, consumer editor

“Id buy a soft-top MX-5, a first-gen Mustang (most likely import one), and a midsize SUV. Buy a big house with a big garage (with room to grow the collection) and a home gym. Start a business, invest the rest, and live quietly.” – Jason Tulio, staff writer

“First, I’d buy a bed. Tapos papa-ayos ko CR namin. Then I’d buy a Mazda MX-5 RF, a Subaru Forester XT, and a Manila-proofed Hyundai H350. Thats one car each for the three two-bedroom condo units I’m going to by. I’d buy my mom a Volvo V90 Cross and my dad a brand-new midsize SUV.” – Drei Laurel, staff writer

“Buy a huge property in the mountains, build my dream house around my dream garage (four-post lifters, tools, etc.), then duplicate Tarlac Circuit Hill (with paddock and full amenities and lounge) in a nice area that can be seen from the house. And a rally stage in the woods. For cars, just my childhood dream cars: genuine LHD Lancer Evo V, Lancia Delta Integrale Evo2, and two or three Miatas. Oh, and all the spare parts I would need to keep my cars in good condition for years and years.” – Paulo Subido, editor in chief

“Id build my dream house with a separate clean and dirty warehouse garage/man cave, and build my dream air-cooled VW, early Porsche, Kustom American hotrod, and old school Japanese collection. Too many cars to mention. Then I’d invest the rest in Botchi’s business. Haha.” – Ian Magbanua, old school editor

“Id put some money in a trust fund for my family, then invest in a school focusing on solving the mobility issues of the country and spring local transport cooperatives. Naturally, there would be a racetrack going through the campus, where wed hold eco-marathons, bike sprints, and grassroots races. It would be called the Transport Research Institute of the Philippines (TRIP). My on-campus garage would include a few classic Mini Coopers, an Alfa Junior (the only truly expensive car in it), an electric Beetle, a big van for the fam, and a 2001 Suzuki Jimny.” – Niky Tamayo, contributing editor

“Id invest the vast majority of it into investments and stocks, possibly a gas station. I would buy a house and lot for myself (with parking to spare) and use the rest for myself. Since we are car guys at heart, Id use the money to round out my garage. Dream cars: a Porsche 911 Turbo and a Ferrari FF, plus Id make an offer for Lexus Manilas LFA. Daily drivers: Toyota Land Cruiser and a Lexus GS F. Bikes: a BMW R1200GS, a KTM Superduke R, and a Ducati Panigale. For my family, Id buy my brother a Subaru BRZ and my sister a Suzuki Jimny, since those are their dream cars. Id also get my mother and my grandmother a Toyota Alphard each.” – Carlo Chungunco, contributor

“After I make sure I’m not dreaming, I’d buy a five-car garage with an attached house. Then I’d buy a McDonald’s and a Petron franchise for investment purposes. To fill up my garage I’d get my dream Mercedes-Benz G-Class, a Porsche 911 Carrera S (I’ve never driven a Porsche), a yellow Toyota FJ Cruiser (but I’ll scour OLX for an army green color), a ceramic white Mazda MX-5 with a soft top, and a champagne metallic BMW M4 (M is love). Like Carlo, I’d give my parents an Alphard and my brother a Mazda CX-9.” – Dinzo Tabamo, executive editor
