The ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ trailer has just dropped. Who’s excited?

Top Gun has cemented itself as one of the most iconic movies of the ’80s. I mean, c’mon? If you haven’t done a Marie Kondo on your house yet, there’s a pretty good chance you still have a VHS (or Betamax) copy of the flick in your mold-damaged video-cassette collection.

Spoilers ahead if you are a millennial and most probably haven’t seen the original 1986 Top Gun yet—although you probably have no interest in doing so, anyway.

The memorable moments still remain fresh: The scenes where Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell (played by Tom Cruise) rides his Kawasaki GPZ900R Ninja (always as the sun is setting)—while chasing the F-14 A Tomcat on the runway, or being chased by his love interest Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Blackwood (who is driving a Porsche 356 Speedster)—aren’t easily forgotten.

If you were an impressionable kid in the ’80s, you wanted to be Maverick, dude. Who didn’t want to sing along to ‘Great Balls Of Fire’ at the diner? Woo a lady with ‘You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling’ at the bar? Or request a fly-by from the control tower after saving the day? Or get freaky while Berlin’s ‘Take My Breath Away’ played in the background? Or shed a tear after your partner Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw dies after a failed ejection-seat maneuver? Or play beach volleyball with your best buddies while topless, with the sweat glistening off your sculpted torso, with the song ‘Playing with the Boys’ as background music?

And so the trailer for Top Gun: Maverick has dropped, and everyone who is excited about it and shared a link on their social media accounts have just revealed their ages. Har har. You can check it out here:

In hindsight, that cringe-worthy homoerotic volleyball scene was pretty forward-thinking, after all. We wonder if it will make a comeback in 2019. Well, we can only wait (and hope) and see.

As cheesy as the original Top Gun was, I have to admit that I’m looking forward to watching the latest installment. Are you going to catch it when it hits local theaters?
