The old-school AE86 is car that will always hold a special place in the hearts of Toyota fans. This isn’t just because the vehicle represents a simpler time of JDM purity, but also because of Initial D.
The anime series was, and still continues to be, a favorite among car lovers because of the original AE86’s role as protagonist Takumi Fujiwara’s ride. Well, the vehicle is back—not in a remake, but in a brand-new car ad where it takes on the all-new GR86. Watch:
The advertisement is part of the Japanese car manufacturer’s new ‘Fasterclass’ campaign for it all-new sports car. In a press release, the brand says this “highlights the 86’s legacy and introduces the vehicle’s next evolution with the GR86.”
It isn’t much, considering the clip is just 15 seconds in length—but that animation, those cars…that Eurobeat. If this doesn’t have you longing for a modernized take on the classic anime, we don’t know what will.
