I drove my son to his prom night

It was like a dry run for wedding day

Parenthood is an art. There is no perfect formula for it. As my son gets older, I try my best to be responsive to his day-to-day needs. Tongki, as I affectionately call my only son among four children, is the youngest, too.

Now that he’s a teenager, more attention is needed for him to strengthen our father-and-son bonding. And what can be more important than driving him to his junior prom?

I had driven my three daughters to similar occasions before, but nothing beats the feelings I have with that of my son’s. I have this weird apprehension that he might end up like me.

Indeed, time flies. Prom-night duties woke me up to the fact that Tongki has grown tall, smart and handsome. To me it was just yesterday when he was a little boy riding his bicycle around. Now, he has grown this little mustache and Adam's apple.

At home, I tried to stay calm, but the pre-prom jitters just keep coming back.

For this occasion, I borrowed a gorgeous-looking ‘Love Bug’ from Volkswagen Philippines, since it blends well with the event. It reminds me of our first car, a 1972 VW 1302S that was already in our garage during my wedding day.
