The Honda/Acura NSX is one of the great Japanese sports cars of our generation. Even though the first-generation model came out some 26 years ago, it is still one of the most desired automobiles out there.

But how did the NSX become such a legend? Part of the credit must go to an equally legendary man—the late Ayrton Senna. The famous Formula 1 world champion wasn’t merely a driver of the Honda-engined McLaren race car back in the day. The Japanese carmarker actually asked him to be part of the development team for the NSX. It was Senna who inspired Honda to stiffen the car's chassis after taking it for a test drive on the Suzuka Circuit in Japan. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Relive how Senna was an inspiration to life, racing, and driving in a short film by automotive filmmaker and photographer Robbert Alblas. In just a few minutes, the film shows off just how awesome the NSX drives—with an adrenaline-inducing exhaust note to boot. If this isn’t enough, an equally exciting clip of Senna behind the wheel of an NSX on a racetrack at full tilt can also be seen. It's three-plus minutes of pure gearhead excitement and nirvana.

Yes, both Senna and first-generation NSX may have passed on, but the legacy they built continues to inspire.
