Watches inspired by cars are about a dime a dozen. We’re happy to report, though, that this one isn’t a niche timepiece built to commemorate a one-off or an unattainable model from an ultra-lux brand. What you see here is based on one of the most beloved Toyotas ever made.
Built in collaboration with Toyota Auto Body, the Casio G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-2000TLC is a watch dedicated to the Land Cruiser’s experiences competing in the Dakar Rally.
Casio says that just like the SUV it’s based on, this Mudmaster is built to withstand the harshest environments you can throw at it. It’s shock-resistant, mud-resistant, features 200 meters of water resistance and uses a stainless steel and resin build.
The watch is powered by Casio’s Tough Solar technology and comes equipped with an LED light for illumination. It also features a compass, altimeter, barometer, thermometer, and a variety of timing features including five daily alarms, a full calendar, and 29 time zones.
Aesthetically, Casio has given this thing’s band some mud and sand splatter, and blue, white and red accents that pay homage to the colors of Team Land Cruiser. Below you’ll see Toyota Auto Body racer Akira Miura showing off his GWG-2000TLC-1A:
Neat, right. Thing is, durability comes at a cost. This time piece will set you back 1,299 Singapore dollars (over P49,000). Worth it? You decide.
