The Gran Turismo franchise likes to call itself "the real driving simulator," which is arguably true for video game consoles. While majority of the cars featured in the games are based on real-life vehicles, there have been a couple of concept cars in every iteration. The sixth--and latest--installment of the franchise will be no different, but instead of featuring just a handful of concept cars, we'll get more than the usual.
According to the game's developer, Polyphony Digital, the concept cars that will be made available for Gran Turismo 6 will come from carmakers (Alfa Romeo, Alpine, Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, SRT and Volkswagen), design houses (Bertone, Italdesign Giugiaro and Zagato), and even global brands like Nike.
The initiative to include numerous concept cars in the game is supposedly to celebrate the franchise's 15 years. The cars will also be available from 2013 to 2014 "to owners of Gran Turismo 6 through online update."
"This is a very exciting project," said Gran Turismo creator and Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi. "It promises to provide a window into the future of automotive design that we can bring to life in Gran Turismo 6. We are extremely grateful to all of our design partners in this project for their amazing birthday present to Gran Turismo to celebrate the franchise's 15th anniversary, and are so excited to share this gift with our fans. Working closely with the leading lights of automotive design--as well as some design teams from outside of the industry--has been a rare privilege, and we look forward to sharing their creations with fans of Gran Turismo from this year to 2014."
Gran Turismo 6 will officially go on sale worldwide on December 6, 2013.
