The OPM icon has recently been spotted riding his Softail Slim, aside from the fact that he also owns a custom Forty-Eight. Not long ago, Buendia tried out the new Pan America at the Harley-Davidson of Manila showroom in Bonifacio Global City.
Recently, he took his passion for hogs to the next level by going through skills training at MotorClyde Training Center in Santo Tomas, Batangas.
He wrote on Instagram, “Heavy metal: Thank you Harley-Davidson of Manila for holding this all-Harley bike training. Thanks also to the experts @motorclyde Handlebar Batangas for sharing their skills.”
MotorClyde’s founder, Clyde ‘Karim’ Solano, who has been certified as Master Topgun trainer by a Harley-Davidson branch in Saudi Arabia, recently came home to the Philippines and was able to personally train Buendia’s group.
According to Solano: “I always start from the basic techniques—sort of my warmup—but the riders don’t know that I am already evaluating their skills. [With Ely,] I discovered that he has habitual skills: Every time he turns, he presses the clutch, which causes him to lose balance. So, I have to emphasize the proper techniques.
“Since the course yesterday was Advanced Level 1, they struggled a bit on the drills. But as a coach, I always support them [and find] a way to make things easier. [Ely] was able to perform the last drill of hazard avoidance and escape maneuvering with a combination of a tight figure-eight."
MotorClyde Training Center—which also offers Advance Riding Course, Group Ride Training, and Road Captainship—and Handlebar Restaurant held its soft opening on July 9. Here’s hoping we could come back there soon.
