Given the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, it certainly feels good when we know we’re purchasing products at a fair price without sacrificing quality.
Take the case of Husqvarna’s locally made retro-style bikes, the Svartpilen and the Vitpilen, which were made available in the country last month. Jaws dropped when Adventure Cycle Philippines announced that the models’ 401 variants are priced at P295,000 and P315,000, respectively.
Compare that to the Malaysian market, where the the Svartpilen 401 and the Vitpilen 401 retail for 29,800 Malaysian ringgit, or roughly P357,000. That’s higher than the bikes’ Philippine prices by over P60,000 for the Svartpilen and more than P40,000 for the Vitpilen.
The Svartpilen 200, meanwhile, is priced at P175,000 here. In Malaysia, the Svartpilen 250 is offered for 24,800 ringgit (around P297,000). That adds up to a difference in pricing of over P120,000 between the two variants.
The only difference real difference between the smaller Philippine and Malaysian Huskies are their engine displacements. Our locally made Svartpilen 200 is powered by a 199.5cc single-cylinder engine, while the Malaysian version has a slightly bigger 248.8cc mill. Both engines are drawn from the motors of the KTM 200 Duke and 250 Duke, respectively. Otherwise, all the electronic aids available on the Malaysian-spec bikes are also offered here.
