Suzuki Philippines has unleashed the 2020 Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT with improved power, highly functional electronic add-ons, and rally-style looks inspired by the model’s Dakar Rally edition.
First introduced in 2002 as the DL-1000 V-Strom, this third-generation adventure bike is now powered by a 1,037cc 90-degree V-twin engine that generates 107hp and 100Nm. The off-road-capable Euro 5-compliant mill boasts new camshafts and pistons that are fed by 49mm ride-by-wire throttle bodies. This setup allows smooth and precise throttle grip action, giving the rider total control of the bike even in extremely slippery and rugged road conditions. A 32-bit engine control module operates the automatic idle speed control, which improves cold starting and stabilizes the engine idle to avoid stalling especially in traffic.
Among the outstanding new features of the V-Strom 1050XT is cruise control and an updated four-mode traction-control system that can be switched off. There’s also the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS), which gives the rider the freedom to choose from three engine power-delivery settings.
In addition, this on- and off-road machine is equipped with the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System, a comprehensive electronic safety package that includes the updated Motion Track Anti-Lock as well as the Combination Brake System with a new Bosch six-axis inertial measurement unit and rider-selectable ABS sensitivity, which is a great safety feature when cornering at high speeds.
All of the V-Strom’s major components are held together by a rigid yet lightweight twin-spar aluminum frame that ensures good handling in different conditions. The suspension package includes an inverted KYB fork that’s adjustable for preload, and with additional compression and rebound damping-force adjustment based on the rider’s preference. A single rear shock with remote hydraulic-spring adjustment is mounted to the cast aluminum swingarm. The system allows the rider to tweak the rear setting by simply pressing a button.
This gorgeous stallion rolls on a pair of tubeless spoked wheels (19 inches in front and 17 inches at the rear), and uses a multifunction LCD with adjustable illumination to effectively relay important information. Being a true-blooded adventure bike, the 1050XT also features a hand-adjustable windscreen and a pair of lightweight yet sturdy hand guards.
Fortunately, Top Bikes Philippines was able to see the first batch of units in the metal at Wheeltek’s Makati dealership. Priced at P859,000, the Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT is offered in three color combinations: Champion Yellow, Glass Sparkle Black, and the heritage special Blaze Orange.
