Life can sometimes be really unfair. Some Japanese motorcycle companies come up with awesome two-wheelers, but they limit the allocation of these bikes to select countries. And more often than not, these models end up exclusively for the Japanese market despite the fact that they have great potential elsewhere.

The 2020 Yamaha BWs 125, as it is called in the US, is one such model. Known in other countries as the Zuma 125, this tiny adventure-style scooter has some unique features that give it a bit of off-roading capability. These include a pair of dual-purpose tires, a telescopic fork, pre-adjustable rear shocks, knuckle guards, and even a beak-inspired front fender.

Give it a few more inches of suspension travel and ground clearance, and this scooter will be good for light trail rides around the farm.

Great as an urban or suburban commuter, the BWs 125 is propelled by a 125cc SOHC air-cooled (with fan-assist) single-cylinder engine mated to a fully-automatic CVT. It’s peppy and easy to use, and returns a claimed fuel-consumption figure of 44km/L.

Stopping power is delivered by a 245mm front disc with twin calipers and a 200mm rear disc. Other key features are front-apron-mounted halogen headlights, a fully-digital instrument panel with a tachometer, alloy wheels, a 29-liter under-seat storage compartment, a small cubbyhole at the front, and a sturdy rear carrier with solid grab rails.

The latest version pretty much retains all the features of the 2018 version. The main difference for the 2020 BWs has a new paint job—Dark Bluish Gray Solid—among the available color options.

We think these features make the Yamaha BWs 125 perfect for Philippine roads. Do you agree?
