As part of its efforts to improve road safety, the Legal Engagement Advocating Development and Reform, Inc. (LEADER, Inc.) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) NCR East conducted the second leg of the ‘Ridelihood’ program.
Ridelihood is a training program for Filipinos who make a living out of riding, mainly those who operate motorcycle taxis or provide courier services. This leg of the program was held at the LTO Central Office compound in East Avenue, Quezon City.
“Ridelihood is a response to the steady growth of the motorcycle taxi and courier industry in the Philippines, and a recognition of the necessity to support and protect our countrymen who are trying to make an honest living through it,” said LEADER, Inc. executive director Atty. Emiliano Bantog.
The session featured discussions on road safety practices and procedures on avoiding and mitigating the occupational health aspects of riding motorcycles. It also included talks on legal rights and obligations of riders, as well as a refresher course on basic road rules and regulations, road signs, and road courtesy. The LTO Driving Test Track facilities also hosted practical exercises for participants.
“The program will not only train motorcycle drivers but will also serve as a good opportunity for cooperation among road safety advocates and other stakeholders,” said LTO NCR East regional director Benjamin Santiago.
