Like father, like son. Or should it be like father, like children?
It cannot be denied that the passion for motocross racing is deeply rooted in the family of showbiz couple Oyo Sotto and Kristine Hermosa as three of their four children are now competing alongside the supportive dad—including their only daughter.
And the Sottos are not only competing, but also winning. This past weekend, it was raining trophies and medals for the family at the MX Messiah Fairgrounds (MMF) 2019 Supercross Championship held in Taytay, Rizal.
Their eldest child, 10-year-old Kiel (photo above), bagged first place in the ‘10 years old and below’ category, while six-year-old Ondrea (first photo below) captured first place in the girls’ category. Kaleb (second photo below) also brought home the first-place trophy in the ‘five years and below’ category, as well as third place overall for the Nationals Yamaha PW50 event.
It turns out the victories of the three Sotto children were only icing on the cake. Riding a Beta 300 RR dirt bike, Sotto brought home three prestigious awards: Nationals Beginners Open overall champion, MMF Academy Newbie Class (special event) champion, and Nationals Power Enduro overall champion.
“Siya lang ang nakapanalo ng two divisions sa 17 (participants) in the national categories,” says coach Sam Tamayo. “Grabe! Very natural talent si Oyo!”
Sotto’s long experience in riding mountain bikes provides a big boost to his motocross stint.
Patience and determination were key to Team Sotto’s winning streak—they hit the track at least once a week leading up to the actual race. From practice sessions until race proper, Sotto’s loving wife and two-year-old son Vin were always there to support the competing riders.
We were told Hermosa is also a regular fixture at MX Messiah Fairgrounds, harnessing her riding on the flat track. Will we see her competing in the motocross arena soon?
Congratulations to the Sottos!
